Animal Kingdom in Production
Dean Kavanagh's Animal Kingdom is now in production. Animal Kingdom will merge live action with animated elements for the creation of a feature film that melds character, object, landscape and the very tactile make-up of the film itself into one mutating, symphonic mass.
An explosive account of cinema as Witchcraft.
Animal Kingdom was kindly funded by Arts Council of Ireland as part of the Film Project Award 2016. The film will be produced by Easter Film Group and will be completed in 2017.

Two EFS Programmes in Berlin, July 2015
Experimental Film Society (EFS) filmmakers Rouzbeh Rashidi, Dean Kavanagh, Maximilian Le Cain and visual artist Atoosa Pour Hosseini will be in Berlin to introduce two programmes of short films that give an intense overview of the range and formally challenging thrust of EFS filmmaking.

EFS Video On Demand
Over the past five years, four prolific underground filmmakers have emerged to define a new and distinctive visionary strain of filmmaking in Ireland. Under the banner of Experimental Film Society, Rouzbeh Rashidi, Dean Kavanagh, Michael Higgins and Maximilian Le Cain have forged a defiantly personal and marginal cinema that is fast becoming recognized as "an important new direction" (Donal Foreman, Estudios Irlandeses- Read HERE) in Irish film. Sharing an exploratory approach to filmmaking where films emerge from the interplay of sound, image and atmosphere rather than traditional storytelling techniques, their work has been singled out for its radical formal qualities and poetic sensibility. Made with low or, most often, no budgets, this is filmmaking at its most challenging and independent.

"EFS Publications" is a new project spearheaded by Maximilian Le Cain, Dean Kavanagh and Rouzbeh Rashidi. It is an online film journal that will be constantly updated as material comes in. It will mix writing by and on Experimental Film Society members with reflections on filmmaking and cinema past and present by an international array of writers. We hope that in time it will become a lively and diverse site for thinking, dreaming and discussing cinema and constantly questioning its limits.

Repressed Cinema presents works by five members of the Experimental Film Society:
Homo Sapiens Project (157) by Rouzbeh Rashidi
Homo Sapiens Project is an ongoing series of varied short films that provides, first and foremost, a laboratory for experimenting with cinematic forms. The range of works produced consists of everything from ‘sketches’ to fully finished and polished films.
HSP (157) is a medium-length film that unleashes the sinister atmospheres lurking in an apparently idyllic rural environment.

A prying look at the creatures that inhabit a home.
The Distance by Dean Kavanagh
A young man recalls a fishing trip from his childhood, but he is not sure if they are his memories.
Dirt by Vicky Langan & Maximilian Le Cain
A phantasmagoric mélange of live performances and elements of gothic horror, resulting in a
haunting, intense and sometimes humorous portrait of Langan as performer.
